Infinitesimals

We are living in an age when the tiny thing has come to have vast importance. In the field of physics the atom has been found to embody tremendous material power, and the world is constantly threatened with destruction if this power should be used for military purposes.

The conversion of the infinitesimal atom of matter into energy through fusion or fission causes a very little matter to become a very great amount of energy. Because such energy can be used for peaceful purposes to benefit the race and because good is certain to triumph, released atomic power will no doubt eventually take care of the energy needs of billions of people.

To the Christian Scientist, infinitesimal thoughts are of great concern, and he needs to watch his thinking to see what kind of infinitesimals he entertains. Are his big thoughts dedicated to great purposes while his little thoughts remain negative and mean, selfish, irritable, fearful, hypocritical? Perhaps such false infinitesimals are more important than he thinks. Perhaps they are releasing destructive mental energies that claim to damage his body and blight his experience.
