Putting Spirituality First

Those who turn to Christian Science merely to gain freedom from their troubles may tend to avoid its study when they have mastered a discordant situation. Those, however, who look upon Christian Science as the revelation of God, here to bless, guide, heal, and save humanity, are not tempted to coast along. They study the Science of Christ, and what they are learning they use to help others.

The Bible warns us against resting in easy material security to the exclusion of spirituality. And history points to deterioration of nations which, having reached a peak of material prosperity and power, declined and fell because they lacked the moral or spiritual development needed to guide them.

The Psalmist warned (Ps. 62: 10), "If riches increase, set not your heart upon them." And Jeremiah adjured (9:23, 24), "Let not the wise man glory in his wisdom, neither let the mighty man glory in his might, let not the rich man glory in his riches: but let him that glorieth glory in this, that he understandeth and knoweth me, that I am the Lord which exercise lovingkindness, judgment, and righteousness, in the earth."
