When I was a young girl, my parents separated, and I was pushed out of the home and told that I had been unwanted. This severe experience made me doubt the existence of God. But I had one bright spot in my youth: dear, spiritually minded grandparents who loved the Bible. On the occasions after the separation when I was with them, seeds of Love and Truth were sown in my consciousness, but they lay dormant for many years.
Eventually I learned of Christian Science. With the help of consecrated students of this religion and through the study of Science and Health by Mrs. Eddy, which is indeed the key to the Scriptures, I have been healed of many things, including the feeling of being unwanted.
At one time I accidentally drank some cleaning fluid. As I realized what had happened my first impulse was to rush for an antidote. But then I recalled these words of Jesus: "These signs shall follow them that believe;... if they drink any deadly thing, it shall not hurt them" (Mark 16:17, 18). I knew that Truth is the only real antidote to error, and I turned to the Bible and Science and Health, placing my reliance on God alone. I did not feel the slightest aftereffect.
