As long as I can remember I...
As long as I can remember I have tried to be a Christian and do what I thought was right, but I was never quite sure that I understood the Bible. Having been active in a Protestant church for many years and having belonged to Bible study groups, I felt I should have gained a better understanding of God than I had.
I had friends who were Christian Scientists, and I had known of their religion for many years; but I had a misconception of what it was. However, at a time when a great sorrow caused by the passing on of a loved one came into my life, a woman whom I had known for a long time kindly offered me a copy of the textbook, and I agreed to read it.
Through the years a part of my daily prayer had been a request for wisdom and understanding, and as I read the book I knew that my prayer was being answered. Here was what I had always been looking for. It brought me great comfort in my grief. The simple, beautiful way in which Mrs. Eddy explains what God is and man's relationship to Him so flooded my consciousness that I knew death is not God's will, as I had been taught it was.
