Prayer Is Action

One who is in trouble is not discouraged as long as he knows there is a way out.

One who is praying for the solution of a problem in Christian Science finds that there is never a limit to the mental steps he may take. Truth is God, infinite Mind, Life, Love, Principle, Soul, Spirit. Man is Truth's image. A problem presents to human consciousness an error which must be corrected, and the correction is always to be found in divine Truth. Truth always supplies just the right ideas needed to correct an error. Truth also provides an abundance of ways in which to apply these ideas.

When Christ Jesus taught his disciples to pray, he said, "After this manner therefore pray ye" (Matt. 6:9). The prayer he gave we now call the Lord's Prayer. The words, "after this manner," indicate more than merely the words to be included in a prayer; they invite attention to the method. As we study the prayer which followed, we find mental action called for. The prayer requires that we do these things: acknowledge a universal Father, not of the earth but in heaven; love and respect His name; accept the coming of His kingdom; submit to His will, not only in heaven but here in our earthly experience; expect our supply to come each day from Him; forgive those who owe us that we may be forgiven what we owe; purify our desires that we may be led out of evil; honor God as the possessor of all that is real—"the kingdom, and the power, and the glory, for ever."
