At a time when I was experiencing a great sense of grief because of the passing on of a loved sister and when I had only part-time work and my marriage had ended in a separation from my husband, I accepted Christian Science. My mother was studying Science and Health by Mrs. Eddy and as a result was being healed of her grief. Mother would ask my sisters and me to accompany her to the Wednesday evening testimony meetings at a branch Church of Christ, Scientist, but we would not go. I was so depressed at the beginning of one week that I decided to destroy myself on the following Friday. When Wednesday came, Mother did not ask us to go to church, but I asked if I might accompany her I recall how happy she was.

The ushers in the church expressed an impersonal sense of love, which was new and wonderful to me. We sat down, and I read these words from the Bible, which were on the wall near the platform (John 6:35): "I am the bread of life: he that cometh to me shall never hunger; and he that believeth on me shall never thirst." I read them over and over. I had read the passage before, but here it had a new meaning. I felt a load drop from me, just as though I had lost a great weight. I was healed of my grief, the other things did not distress me any more, and I became grateful for the employment I had. I had found God and I had found my church home.

When I learned to love a sister-in-law, that is, to see her as in reality the image and likeness of God. I was healed of an internal difficulty.
