For many years I had an earnest...

For many years I had an earnest desire to learn more of God and to find out why there should be two creations spoken of in the book of Genesis. The answers I received from the teachings in orthodox churches failed to satisfy me. Mrs. Eddy says in Science and Health (p. 1), "Desire is prayer; and no loss can occur from trusting God with our desires, that they may be moulded and exalted before they take form in words and in deeds." My earnest prayer was answered when I was given the opportunity to go abroad, for it was during the time I was away that I was introduced to Christian Science.

The first healing that I can recall was that of neuritis in the shoulder, which had given me many sleepless nights. When the friend who introduced me to Science learned of the difficulty, he said that if I so desired, he would give me a Christian Science treatment. I was so new in Science that I had no idea what this meant; but the healing was immediate, although I did not realize it at the time. The neuritis went so completely out of my thought that I was extremely surprised when my friend asked me about a week later if I was sleeping well. Even then I did not remember the trouble I had been having in sleeping. It was not until many weeks later that something caused me to remember the incident, and I realized that I had been healed through my friend's application of the truth.

On my return home I hoped that my family would accept Science too, but this hope was not realized. However, without specific prayerful work being done and simply through my gradually awakening understanding of God's beneficence and ever-present love, the leaven of Truth became active and resulted in improved circumstances for the family as a whole. It led to a more stable sense of supply and home, which has developed throughout the ensuing years and blessed all members of my family.
