I was brought up by good parents, who taught me to love God and the Bible and to keep the Commandments; but they knew nothing of Christian Science. It remained for this Science to give me a real understanding of God.

When our son was a baby I became very ill. I consulted four or five doctors. Although each diagnosis was different, the doctors were all agreed that I was gravely ill. They mentioned goiter, gall bladder trouble, and tuberculosis. I went to my mother's home in another state, thinking that perhaps our family doctor could help me; but he told me that if I wanted to be with my husband when I died, I should return home immediately.

When I got home we called in a doctor who was just starting to practice. He advised me to try Christian Science, saying that he had seen people healed by it when everything else had failed. He said, "Call a Christian Science practitioner without delay." This I did. She came in about twenty minutes and said she would begin prayerful work for me right then. The doctors had at this stage given me twenty-four hours to live. When this period was up, I was so happy to be still alive that I cried tears of joy. I was confident God would complete the healing.
