Great is my gratitude, for...
Great is my gratitude, for "verily God hath heard me; he hath attended to the voice of my prayer" (Ps. 66:19).
Our second child was not quite a month old when I suddenly became ill with influenza and a sinus infection. This condition caused me pain and inconvenience, since I was unable to eat, sit up, or breathe normally. I was nursing the baby at the time; in spite of the fever and discomfort I was experiencing, I continued to nurse him, feeling that to do otherwise would be inconsistent with the prayerful declaration I was making of my own perfection as in reality God's spiritual manifestation.
I asked a Christian Science practitioner to help me in my prayerful work. He assured me that an understanding of this spiritual fact would nullify the sickness: that there never was an idea of God who needed to be healed of a disease any more than there was an idea of God who needed to be protected from a danger, He assured me that actually the baby and I were individualized expressions of God, the one perfect Mind, completely enveloped and surrounded in His love, care, and goodness.
