Man's Unity with God

There is a great need today for recognizing the indestructible unity which exists between God and man. One may be willing to concede that eventually unity will exist or appear or that at one time unity existed. But that in which most of us are interested is, What of the now? Are we truly included in God, or do we exist separate from Him? Christian Science urges the acceptance of the premise that man is at this very moment at one with God, good, as His reflection and that he can never be torn apart from that spiritual unity. It is on this basis of true oneness that the Christ, Truth, is demonstrated in human experience.

Mrs. Eddy says (The First Church of Christ, Scientist, and Miscellany, p. 262): "God creates man perfect and eternal in His own image. Hence man is the image, idea, or likeness of perfection—an ideal which cannot fall from its inherent unity with divine Love, from its spotless purity and original perfection."

In discussing the unity which man has with God, we are alluding to the genuine individuality and selfhood of each of us. The consciousness which is cognizant of this unity is the real man. There are not two of us: a man who is at one with God and one who is an outcast. The true being of each individual is actually and eternally at one with God. Man is God's perfect reflection.
