The Need of Spiritual Consciousness
"Spiritual, not corporeal, consciousness is needed," writes Mrs. Eddy in Science and Health (p. 67). The theology of Christian Science calls for the exchange of mortal or merely human concepts for the consciousness which is divine.
As used in its highest sense in Christian Science the term consciousness means Mind, God. Infinite consciousness is the only Ego or Mind. It is the only intelligence or presence. It is the controlling power of creation. In infinite consciousness there is no defect, lack, or misunderstanding. Consciousness is the perfect, omniscient One.
The First Commandment (Ex. 20: 3), "Thou shalt have no other gods before me," might be rendered, "Thou shalt have no other consciousness than the divine." What is the result of recognizing God as the only consciousness? Clearly, as the reflection of divine Mind, we are conscious only of good, of that which is spiritual and real.
