In 1915, with the desire to help in the war effort, I took medical and surgical nurses' training, which was completed in 1918 shortly after the Armistice. I then married. My husband had become interested in Christian Science as a schoolboy, and in order to be interested in whatever satisfied him, I began to look into its teachings.
Our son at three months had to be vaccinated, and he became very ill. This illness was followed by whooping cough and measles. I did all I knew how to do as a nurse, but my medical knowledge told me that his condition was so critical that he could not last until the doctor arrived. Therefore I consented to my husband's calling a Christian Science practitioner on the telephone. The results were immediate.
I put the child down in his cot. Within five minutes he was sleeping peacefully, and within two weeks he was completely healed. Eighteen months later, with the help of the same practitioner, my husband was healed in a few days of typhoid fever.
