RIGHT SELECTIONS

Students of Christian Science love to sing. Theirs is a religion of joy, of good news, for it brings to all an awakened sense of freedom and light. Christian Scientists recognize Love's provident hand in the unique and inspired Order of Church Services, given in the Manual of The Mother Church by Mary Baker Eddy. And they know that each hymn, solo, citation, and musical selection that is used in the service has been chosen as a result of spiritual demonstration and guidance, hence their enjoyment and enthusiasm as they participate in each part of the service.

In meeting the requirements of church services, outlined in the Manual, the First Reader must prepare readings for use at both the Sunday services and the Wednesday testimony meetings. He must select hymns from the Christian Science Hymnal that will illustrate and enhance the subject of the service.

In church work the chairman of the executive board of a branch Church of Christ, Scientist, the chairmen of church committees, as well as individual church members, find that from time to time they too must prepare readings for meetings. The organist and soloist learn that each service is unique and has, musically speaking, its individual requirements for appropriate musical numbers.
