In "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures," under the marginal heading "Truth by inversion," Mary Baker Eddy tells us (p. 129), "If you wish to know the spiritual fact, you can discover it by reversing the material fable, be the fable pro or con,—be it in accord with your preconceptions or utterly contrary to them." This statement was conclusively proved to me by a complete healing in my human experience.

After spending a summer vacation enjoying the swimming and sun at the beach, I became afflicted with a very painful and unsightly condition of the eyes. I was unable to see well or to read. I consulted the oculist about the necessity of changing my glasses. His diagnosis was that the changing of glasses was not the answer, because my eyes had been stricken by a serious disease caused by the sun and glare on the beach. He stated that there was no cure or help for this condition and warned me that if I ever again went into the sunlight and glare of a beach, I would become completely blind.

I refused to accept this verdict and turned with radical reliance to Christian Science. My son gave me the Talking Book of Science and Health, and I played the records for hours, repeating all I could memorize, as well as repeating and dwelling on passages from the Bible.

This continued for about four months without any improvement. One day, when I had become very much discouraged and fearful, this verse came to my thought (John 4:35): "Say not ye, There are yet four months, and then cometh harvest? behold, I say unto you, Lift up your eyes, and look on the fields; for they are white already to harvest."

After this I had a desire to go to the South and be on a beach, away from the cold, wet winter weather. Without hesitation I made reservations for the next few months and notified a real estate office to rent my apartment. This was quickly done and for a good price to an excellent tenant. I left by plane and spent many happy hours in the sunshine on the beach.

The wonderful thing about this was that I did not for one moment think of the medical verdict. After I had been South about a week, I came out of the water onto the beach; and looking up into the bright sunlight, I suddenly realized that I could see perfectly. My eyes had been entirely healed and were normal in every way.

This was positive proof that we can know the spiritual fact and have it manifested humanly by reversing the material fable. I am very grateful to God for Christian Science, for the Bible, for Christ Jesus, our Way-shower, and for the revelation of Truth, given to us by Mrs. Eddy.—(Mrs.) Beatrice Townsend, Sarasota, Florida.
