One day my mother was in a...

One day my mother was in a public office when a literature distribution worker from a branch Church of Christ, Scientist, came in and placed some literature in a distribution box. My mother began talking with the woman and in the course of the conversation asked her if she thought I could be healed of asthma. The reply was, "Yes, I am certain of it."'

The worker took our name and address and sent us from time to time some Christian Science literature and lecture invitations, but at that time we did not put forth much effort to gain more understanding of God. Several years later I met a young man who was a Christian Scientist. He gave me a copy of the textbook, Science and Health, and I began to attend church with him.

I decided to visit a Christian Science practitioner. She was so kind and understanding that I began to pour out my troubles to her. She did not say a great deal, and I do not remember much of what she said except that she told me to study the first sentence of the Preface to Science and Health, which reads (p vii), "To those leaning on the sustaining infinite, to-day is big with blessings."

I left the practitioner's office feeling conscious of a joyful hope, I thought about the statement a great deal, and depression and fear were destroyed.

In a short time I married the young man mentioned above. From that time on I began to study in earnest, and it was then that the asthmatic condition was healed.

My husband has been healed of blood poisoning, boils, and an injured ankle. I have been healed of a hernia, hay fever, sinus trouble, and several warts on one hand. I have borne two children; this the doctors had said would be impossible for me to do. These children have been regular attendants in the Sunday School since the age of two. One is a member of The Mother Church.

Several years ago one of the children was in great pain with an ear condition, and he had a high fever. When the condition did not yield after we had earnestly applied the truth as best we knew how, we called on a practitioner for help.

The child was quiet and reasonably comfortable until evening; then he became restless and began suffering again from pain. My husband called the practitioner. She told us to repeat the Lord's Prayer to the child. I took him up in my arms, sat in a chair with him, and began to repeat the Lord's Prayer with its spiritual interpretation found in the textbook (pp. 16 and 17). Before long, the child became quiet and soon went to sleep. He slept throughout the night and awoke without a vestige of pain or discomfort; he was healed.

Our elder son was on his bicycle one afternoon. A large truck came along; and as the road was rather narrow, our son attempted to get to the edge of the shoulder. His bicycle hit a rock, and he went into the ditch, landing on his wrist. By the time he arrived home, the hand and arm were badly swollen and discolored, as though a bone had been broken.

I considered taking him to a surgeon to have the bone set, but he said he wanted to work it out in Science. My husband went with him to see a practitioner, who took the boy into her office and talked to him for a while; then his father brought him home.

After dinner we were reading to him from the textbook when he said: "I felt something snap in my wrist. I know I have had my healing."' He went to bed and slept all night without waking. The next day the swelling had receded, and all discoloration was gone. In a few days he was able to use his hand and arm as usual.

I am grateful for membership in The Mother Church and in a branch church and for the wonderful privilege of class instruction.— (Mrs.) Thelma U. Hacker, Whittier, California.
