The Bible tells us that Jesus' disciples "went forth, and preached every where, the Lord working with them, and confirming the word with signs following (Mark 16:20). Christian Science proves by "signs following" that it is the truth that Jesus taught.

So many signs were given to me when I first found this Science that there was no room for doubt. No matter how much or how little understanding we think we have, our prayers are answered when we use what we do have.

Shortly after I started the study of Christian Science, one of my thumbs became infected. I tried to see the unreality of the condition through that day and the next, but the third day it seemed wise to call a practitioner. Treatment was given through prayer; but I began watching for certain changes to occur that I felt must happen before the healing could take place, and the more I watched, the more intense became the pain.

The following night the pain was so severe that about half an hour after retiring I arose, determined to read the textbook until the healing came, no matter how long it took. I did not know too much about how to study, but I realized that I could open the book and find what I needed. On page 403 I read Mrs. Eddy's words, "You command the situation if you understand that mortal existence is a state of self-deception and not the truth of being."

Over and over I read this passage. Suddenly a beautiful sense of peace enveloped me, and the healing Christ became apparent to human consciousness. In that moment the thumb drained, and the healing was complete.

Not long after this demonstration of God's healing power, I received the following proof of His guidance. I was unhappy in my work and for many months had been trying to transfer to a particular department of the Government. Friends had also been trying to arrange the transfer, but every road seemed blocked. Then I was guided to ask our personnel office for a transfer to any other department in our organization. In three days the transfer took place, and within a few months another position, which included a promotion, was offered to me. I accepted it and was happy in it for many years.

It has been proved to me over and over again, as it was in these two experiences, that the truth is demonstrated when willful human outlining is set aside.
