On page 50 of her book "Retrospection and Introspection," Mrs. Eddy says, "Loyal students speak with delight of their pupilage, and of what it has done for them, and for others through them." I feel that the time has come for me to "speak with delight" of what the study of Christian Science has done for me.
Since I have been brought up as a Christian Scientist from earliest childhood, it has always been the natural and logical thing for me in times of physical distress to seek healing from divine Principle, God, who, as the Psalmist tells us, "is our refuge and strength, a very present help in trouble" (Ps. 46:1).
For several months I suffered from a severe pain in the lower right side of my body. Although this condition was not quickly healed, I was able throughout the entire period to go to work and to fulfill all my other obligations. One night, during an acute attack, I called upon a member of the family for prayerful help, which was devotedly given. I fell asleep almost immediately and found upon waking that I was well. This took place about eight years ago, and I have not had an attack since.
When I was attending college a medical certificate was required by the authorities, and at the time of the examination I was told that I had a noninfectious but incurable skin disease. This diagnosis was mentally rejected, and the truth of man in the image and likeness of God was held to despite all physical evidence to the contrary. As a result of Christian Science treatment the condition soon disappeared.
For God's gift of Christian Science, made available to humanity by Mrs. Eddy, who says, "I was a scribe under orders" (Miscellaneous Writings, p. 311), I am most humbly grateful.—(Miss) Jewel Lodge, Somerset West, Cape Province, South Africa.
I should like to verify the above healings of my daughter and to express my gratitude for them.
I have also witnessed a healing in my family of a bad case of athletic foot. Four days after Christian Science treatment was asked for, new flesh had grown over the affected areas. The healing was complete within the week.
One day, while I was cleaning windows, the ladder on which I was standing broke, and I fell, sustaining severe leg injuries. I immediately and understandingly repeated "the scientific statement of being" from page 468 of Science and Health by Mrs. Eddy. Part of it reads, "All is infinite Mind and its infinite manifestation, for God is All-in-all." This enabled me to retain consciousness and sustained me throughout the activities of a very busy day.
I then asked for help in Christian Science from a practitioner, and I was able to fulfill my activities for one week. At the end of this time an X-ray photograph was taken which revealed a compound fracture and torn ligaments. The picture showed that the bones in the foot and ankle were all in place and had begun to knit. Within six weeks the healing was complete. At no time did I resort to medical treatment. I am very grateful for the support and help I received from the practitioner at this time.
For this healing and for many others, I wish to send up a paean of praise to God.—(Mrs.) Irene Lodge.
