I first heard of Christian Science...

I first heard of Christian Science twenty-seven years ago, when our two children were young. My own health was far from good; my wife was suffering from a condition which had followed childbirth; our boy was having treatment for a defective state of bone structure; and, added to all this, it was the time of the depression of the thirties, and I was having difficulty with regard to employment.

The friend who told me about Christian Science offered to introduce me to a practitioner who had helped members of his family. I went to see this man, and we had a long talk. I came away very much impressed by all that he told me, for the revolutionary nature of the truths taught in this Science appealed to my thought. He agreed to help me, and after further talks I began very soon to grasp something of the import of the revelation Mrs. Eddy has given to the world.

My physical condition began to improve, and I found I had to do my part by letting go a lot of unnecessary fear, especially with regard to food and its effects. I was helped by dwelling on Jesus' words (Matt. 15:11), "Not that which goeth into the mouth defileth a man; but that which cometh of the mouth, this defileth a man." I persevered with my study and continued to have help from the practitioner until my health was restored.
