The Superlative Nature Of God

God is not relative or comparative; He is infinitely superlative, yes, supreme over all. He has no equal, nor does He honor or cognize any power apart from Himself. Every seemingly mortal power is external to God and is but the counterfeit of His power.

Throughout the Bible are to be found references to the superb might and majesty of God. "In the beginning," we read in Genesis (1:1), "God created the heaven and the earth." Creation is the manifestation of supreme might. No so-called power inferior to God can accomplish that which God does with a word. God's creation, Christian Science teaches, is exclusively spiritual and perfect, and there is no other real creation. That which seems to the senses to be creation is but the dream of mortal mind.

In Hebrews (4:12) we are told, "The word of God is quick, and powerful, and sharper than any twoedged sword." The two-edged sword was evidently the most potent human weapon of dominion that the writer could envision. But he insists that the word of God is even sharper. As we grasp more of reality, we know that God is omnipotent, infinitely greater than the human counterfeit show of force.
