"MY PEOPLE SHALL NEVER BE ASHAMED"

My people shall not ever be ashamed—
Sweet promise ringing down the path of years!
Not even memory of heart untamed
Can darken present bliss with shame or tears;
For infinite and all-inclusive Mind
Contains no record of the unclean thing,
The fault, the failure, or the deed unkind,
The faltering footstep, or the broken wing.
Thus God's forgiveness wipes out every stain
As brightening thought eradicates the dream,
And shadows of the night of sin and pain
Flee formlessly before the daystar's gleam.

The Godlikeness which mortal sense conceals,
Man in his pristine innocence reveals.
