In gratitude and humility, I offer this testimony. I have learned through Christian Science that hope is always at hand, that faith is applicable to human problems, that harmonious living comes to mankind from God, the Father, through the Christ, Truth, as taught and demonstrated by Jesus of Nazareth. I am also grateful that the words and works of Jesus were made understandable to this age by our beloved Leader, Mary Baker Eddy, the Discoverer and Founder of Christian Science.

When I was a small boy, I was enrolled in a Christian Science Sunday School and attended for about six years. During that time I memorized many Bible verses and chapters. From the Christian Science textbook, "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures" by Mrs. Eddy, I memorized "the scientific statement of being" and also the Lord's Prayer, with its spiritual interpretation, found at the end of the chapter on Prayer (pp. 16, 17).

At the age of fourteen, I went to work in a factory and began to take part in the social activities and sports engaged in by my fellow workers. I acquired, with a false sense of personal pride, the tobacco and social drinking habits, as well as other misconceptions of what constituted manhood.
