"To those leaning on the sustaining infinite, to-day is big with blessings." These opening words of the Preface to Science and Health by our revered Leader, Mrs. Eddy, have always been a guiding light in my study of Christian Science.

For many years, when a young man, I suffered severely at times from hay fever. Over one Labor Day week end, I went to visit my parents, who lived on a farm. During the first day of this visit, I had an attack of hay fever. I did not sleep at all during the first night.

At this time I was very new in my study of Christian Science, but I did have my copy of the Bible and of the textbook, Science and Health. Sometime the next morning it dawned on me that here was an opportunity to use some of the many truths which I had read and which I had heard others discuss with such love and gratitude.

I went to my room and started to read from the Christian Science Quarterly the Lesson-Sermon for that week. I do not recall how many sections were read, but before the lesson was completed I had fallen asleep. Upon awakening some six hours later, I was completely free from hay fever, and this healing has been permanent.

A few years later a loved one passed on, and at first the overwhelming sense of loss seemed too great to bear. A Christian Science practitioner had helped me all through this experience, and I feel certain that the early overcoming of this sense of loss and grief was due to the prayerful work that she had done.

During World War II, I had the opportunity of serving with the Army Air Corps, traveling to most of our bases throughout the world. This meant riding in any plane going my way across mountains, oceans, and deserts. The Bible and Science and Health were always with me and were used constantly in working for protection. That this work was effective is evidenced by the many thousands of miles flown, with never a single engine failure or any other threat to safety.

A few years ago, on a Christmas afternoon, I had played a vigorous game of kickball with our children. Some time after retiring that evening, I was awakened by severe pains in my legs that soon made it impossible to walk, sit, or lie down with any degree of comfort. My wife and I worked diligently to overcome this false belief in a power apart from God. But it soon became evident that we needed the help of a practitioner.

In about ten minutes after the practitioner began to work I fell asleep, and I awoke in the morning completely healed. When I called the practitioner to tell him how quickly this condition had been healed, he said, "You were expecting the healing, and you were ready for it."

I am grateful for all of the healings that I have received through my study and application of Christian Science and for all of the evidences of love and protection. I am also grateful for the help and inspiration I have always received from a visit to a Christian Science Reading Room in various places throughout the world, for membership in The Mother Church and in a branch church, and for the privilege of class instruction.—George D.
