"This then is the message which...
"This then is the message which we have heard of him, and declare unto you, that God is light, and in him is no darkness at all" (I John 1:5). This familiar verse from the Bible came to me with new meaning when I took up the study of Christian Science thirty-five years ago.
I had been a member of a Protestant church since childhood and had always had a great love for the Bible and had believed in its promises. However, it did not occur to me that God healed the sick without the aid of materia medica.
My first healing was of glaucoma. The kind physicians and specialists had been unable to promise hope for healing of this type of blindness. I had given up driving the car and was in a state of great depression because of this disability. With a devoted husband and four children to care for, I could not understand why I should be so afflicted.
