For many years I have accepted spiritual blessings and healings from reading the testimonies in the Sentinel. Now I feel it is my privilege to express my deep gratitude for our beloved Leader, Mary Baker Eddy, and for the many sacrifices that she made in order that mankind might utilize the great truths of God and man.

Over sixteen years ago I had a healing that was brought about by my clinging steadfastly to God and to His perfect idea, spiritual man. I had been thrown from a runaway horse and had been taken to a hospital by well-meaning friends who did not know that I was a pupil in the Christian Science Sunday School.

X-ray photographs showed a large crack in my hipbone. Kind doctors told me a life of inactivity was ahead of me if casts and medical treatments were ignored. My urgent request to be taken home was granted. A practitioner was asked for help, and work in Christian Science was taken up immediately. Within a couple of weeks I was completely healed. Since that time my life has included such active sports as water skiing, swimming, bowling, and ice skating; and I have been completely free from any aftereffects.

I should like to tell of another healing that always fills my heart with gratitude to God. One day as I was doing my weekly wash my left hand caught in the wringer and was drawn through up to my wrist before I could release it.

Immediately the angel thought came to me that "accidents are unknown to God." The full statement from Science and Health by Mrs. Eddy reads (p. 424), "Accidents are unknown to God, or immortal Mind, and we must leave the mortal basis of belief and unite with the one Mind, in order to change the notion of chance to the proper sense of God's unerring direction and thus bring out harmony."

Obeying Mrs. Eddy's counsel not to look at error or to admit that anything erroneous can happen to an idea of God, I put my hand in my pocket and went outside. When I returned ten minutes later to finish my wash, the healing was so complete I could hardly believe the incident had happened.

I am so deeply grateful for the loving protection which Christian Science has given us in the rearing of our son. He had a quick healing of a serious ear infection when a practitioner was called upon for help. He was also healed when his leg was broken in two places. The leg was set and completely healed through the application of the truth as taught in Christian Science.

I have been richly blessed by teaching in the Sunday School and serving on committees in a branch Church of Christ, Scientist. I thank God for these privileges and for the unselfish efforts of Christian Science practitioners.

For this beautiful truth which has not only blessed our home but also touched the hearts of the loved ones who do not attend our church or share our understanding but are loving toward our way of life, I am deeply thankful.—(Mrs.) Shirley Snow Hamilton, Crystal Lake, Illinois.
