TRUE HEALING THROUGH CHRISTIAN SCIENCE

Many persons today are asking, "What is the difference between Christian Science healing and faith cure?" Christian Science healing is brought about through the prayer of understanding, in which the power of God is affirmed and the reality of disease is challenged and denied. Faith cures are brought about through mere human belief in God.

In "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures," Mary Baker Eddy devotes the first chapter to the subject of prayer, and on page 12 of that chapter she writes: "'The prayer of faith shall save the sick,' says the Scripture. What is this healing prayer?"

In defining what true prayer is not as well as what it is, she explains (ibid.), "It is neither Science nor Truth which acts through blind belief, nor is it the human understanding of the divine healing Principle as manifested in Jesus, whose humble prayers were deep and conscientious protests of Truth,— of man's likeness to God and of man's unity with Truth and Love."
