Christian Science was introduced...

Christian Science was introduced to our family when my mother was left with five children to rear. Through reliance on its teachings, she was able to maintain a home and support our family.

Many years ago I caught my index finger in an electric clothes wringer. As the finger went into the wringer, I tried to pull it out, and this resulted in serious injury. Treatment in Christian Science was asked for immediately, and the finger was healed without any stitches being taken.

At another time, very hot grease from a frying pan was spilled over my arm just before I had to leave for school. A Christian Science practitioner was asked for help. After wrapping a cloth around my arm, I went to school. The arm healed without a scar.

Although I had attended the Christian Science Sunday School and had enjoyed many benefits, I think my greatest joy came much later on when I earnestly desired to find out for myself how to apply this Science. I should like to relate some recent experiences which are cause for much gratitude.

In preparing for an extensive automobile trip with the family, I felt it important to do protective work. Numerous reports of floods and tornadoes were coming from the section of the country through which we would be driving. As I prayed, this comforting thought from the Bible came (Ex. 3:12), "Certainly I will be with thee," and the assurance and peace it brought remained throughout the trip.

As the time to leave drew near, the suggestion of insufficient funds presented itself. I recalled an article entitled "All the Way," which had appeared in a back issue of The Christian Science Journal. I clung to the truth of a statement which appeared in this article: "'Love never takes anyone halfway. Love takes us all the way.'"

This promise of Love's care was fulfilled, for in a few days the funds for expenses were lovingly provided. We traveled over fifty-four hundred miles without having or seeing an accident; we also went safely through areas where there had been floods and tornadoes.

At times the highway was surrounded by water. Once it was necessary to pass over a bridge which had been weakened by the rising river. At this point a Bible reference from that week's Lesson-Sermon in the Christian Science Quarterly was a guardian angel. That verse reads (Isa. 43:2), "When thou passest through the waters, I will be with thee; and through the rivers, they shall not overflow thee." We crossed the bridge in safety.

Mrs. Eddy makes the following statement in Science and Health (p. 390): "You have no law of His to support the necessity either of sin or sickness, but you have divine authority for denying that necessity and healing the sick." Through realizing that sickness is not a necessity, I have been free from colds for several years, and I am most grateful for this proof of the omnipotence of God's law.

It gives me much joy to be a student of this wonderful religion, discovered and founded by Mrs. Eddy.—(Mrs.) Beatrice P. Grandy, Altadena, California.
