More than forty-five years ago a friend introduced me to Christian Science by giving me a periodical. One day, after reading a Sentinel, I did some ironing with an old-fashioned flatiron which had been heated on a tin plate over a gas flame. Inadvertently I picked up the still very hot plate. When the blistering effect did not appear on my hand, I could see clearly that a higher sense of cause and effect had been my protection and that the statements of Truth I had been reading had caused the lifting up of consciousness, which nullified the material so-called law of cause and effect.

Later I started reading Science and Health by Mrs. Eddy. While I was at college a tendency of my arches to puff up was healed when I recognized that man is spiritual and that mortal mind is the offender, a false claimant to power and presence.

My mother, like others of her day, had always stressed the danger in getting one's feet wet. With another college student, who had to row a boat for school credit and who asked me to assist, I often tramped over the waterlogged lawns to the lagoon. Because of my clearly established consciousness of man's perfection, I felt no concern over getting my feet wet and did not experience any ill effects.
