Some time ago an ugly spot appeared on my face underneath my left eye. I did not give it much attention until it began to pain. Then I referred to the Bible passage (Job 11:14, 15): "If iniquity be in thine hand, put it far away, and let not wickedness dwell in thy tabernacles. For then shalt thou lift up thy face without spot."
I realized that the word "then" had a significant meaning. To me it meant that the healing would come when I had spiritualized my thinking. And indeed, when I did so, the spot began to yield, and it soon faded away entirely.
One evening when leaving our Reading Room, where I was serving as librarian, I took my usual bus for home. Arriving at my stop, I stepped down from the bus on my left foot, but before I could withdraw my right foot, the driver closed the door on it and started the vehicle. This caused me to fall, and I was dragged on the snow-covered ground about fifteen or twenty feet.
