With deep gratitude I tell of the...
With deep gratitude I tell of the healing power of Christian Science, which has been blessing my life. As a young wife and mother I first turned to this Science of Life to find freedom from limitation. A consecrated practitioner pointed the way to me in Jesus' words (Matt. 6:33), "Seek ye first the kingdom of God, and his righteousness; and all these things shall be added unto you."
Guidance and instruction in this seeking were found in the textbook, "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures" by Mary Baker Eddy. Its requirements for a student of Christian Science were followed. Strict adherence to the Manual of The Mother Church by Mrs. Eddy was maintained, and its By-Laws were found to be healing, correcting, and instructive. Loving and joyous attendance at church services was practices, and a study of the Lesson-Sermon in the Christian Science Quarterly was made early each morning.
Gradually, the falsity of the belief that man lives in a time of depression was understood. I learned that in reality my family and I lived in a changeless, perfect, and complete state of being, that I was not dependent on another person for my support, but that each of God's children depends upon God's support alone.
At one time, when my family and I had moved into an unfurnished house, we were without any means to supply the necessary refrigeration. In seeking the understanding of man's true supply, I studied the Scriptural verses (Gal. 5:22, 23), "The fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, longsuffering, gentleness, goodness, faith, meekness, temperance: against such there is no law."
I realized that God's man desires and has only this fruit of the Spirit. Therefore, instead of thinking my need was for a refrigerator, I could help myself to all the fruit of the Spirit I wanted and find myself completely satisfied. For several days this truth filled my consciousness. I made sure that I was loving, joyous, and peaceful. I found many opportunities to be temperate, gentle, good, meek, and faithful. Before long, a great sense of satisfaction and harmony came to me.
Soon after this unfoldment of right ideas had taken place, a next-door neighbor, whom I did not know, asked me if she could give us a large porcelain refrigerator which she was replacing with another. I accepted this gift, for I was sure it was evidence of divine Love's supply of our immediate human need. Along with this gift came rugs, pictures, and quilts which gave us a sense of abundance. No false law of limitation could resist the fruit of the Spirit, of which I had been partaking.
This experience was a stepping-stone for many other demonstrations of God's abundance when it was necessary to see that His supply is equal to every demand. The inspring experience of class instruction further uplifited and clarified my understanding that man reflects infinite good.
For this improved outlook, for healings of bodily ills, and for harmonious adjustments in human relationships, I am indeed grateful. I thank our Father-Mother God for Christ Jesus, our Way-shower, and for Mrs. Eddy, our Leader, whose discovery has given us the key to the kingdom of heaven.—(Mrs.) Lucylle A.
