GOD, THE FATHER OF LIBERTY

In an address to the Concord, New Hampshire, Church of Christ, Scientist, in February, 1899, Mary Baker Eddy alluded to the fact that the organization of that church was completed on George Washington's birthday. Referring to the disclosure of that coincidence, she said (The First Church of Christ, Scientist, and Miscellany, p. 148), "Then we beheld the omen,—religious liberty,—the Father of the universe and the father of our nation in concurrence."

Except for the liberties which were granted and extended through the Constitution, together with its amendments, which was adopted while Washington was playing a leading part in the affairs of state, the Science of Christianity might still be hidden from humanity. But because of constitutional guarantees, assured in the freedom-loving atmosphere of that day, Mrs. Eddy was enabled to worship freely, speak freely, write freely, and assemble other to hear the Word of Truth.

Today, in the free atmosphere of this and many other lands, Christian Science presents for universal consideration a practical concept of God—the Father of us all—who Paul affirmed "is above all, and through all, and in you all" (Eph. 4:6).God is everywhere, always. He is All and is reflected in all—in all reality, in all being, in all His infinite creation. He is the Mind of all, the substance of all, the only intelligence of every idea in His perfect creation.
