THE PRICELESS QUALITY OF COMPASSION

Compassion is one of the loveliest of human qualities, but, like humility and gentleness, it wells from a source beyond the human. Those who constantly feel the touch of divine Love upon their lives cannot help expressing compassion in their human relationships.

The Gospels refer to Christ Jesus as compassionate toward both individuals and groups. In the sixth chapter of Mark we read (verse 34), "Jesus, when he came out, saw much people, and was moved with compassion toward them, because they were as sheep not having a shepherd: and he began to teach them many things."

In the seventh chapter of Luke is found that touching narrative of the widow of Nain, whose only son was being borne to his burial. There was the quick flash of compassion for the sorrowing mother, followed by the comforting words (verse 13), "Weep not." Then Jesus "came and touched the bier. ... And he said, Young man, I say unto thee, Arise. And he that was dead sat up, and began to speak. And he delivered him to his mother."
