"DRAW NIGH TO GOD"

The Bible says (James 4:8), "Draw nigh to God, and he will draw nigh to you." Christian Science explains how to do this. In order to "draw nigh to God," we must know where He is. God is omnipresent, that is, everywhere present at all times. Another step is to know what God is. God is Spirit, divine Mind, infinite Love, all-powerful Truth, immortal Soul, causative Principle, eternal Life. The better we understand the nature of God, thus revealed by Christian Science, the nearer we come to Him.

Another important footstep, if one is to draw near to God, is to understand what man is. Man is the image and likeness of God, as the Bible tells us (see Gen. 1:26). The true identity of each one of us is therefore the exact reflection of God. Mary Baker Eddy shows man's relationship to the divine Mind by such terms as creator and creation, cause and effect, divine Principle and idea.

In "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures," Mrs. Eddy says (p. 336): "God and man are not the same, but in the order of divine Science, God and man coexist and are eternal. God is the parent Mind, and man is God's spiritual offspring."
