[Original testimony in Dutch]
Nearly fourteen years ago, during the Second World War, I was made a prisoner of war in Indonesia. After being in prison a few months, crowded together with seventy other victims in a space scarcely suitable for nine persons, I became very ill with dysentery. I was transferred to a hospital in a serious condition. I cannot remember how many days I was there. It may have been a few days or more than a week. During that time I could neither eat nor drink.
One night I feared I was about to die. My whole life passed by me in review, and at length I said farewell to my wife and children in my thought. I closed my eyes for what I thought was the last time, but just at that moment the words "Christian Science" came to me.
