In 1929 I found myself suffering...
In 1929 I found myself suffering from a rheumatic condition. The physician's diagnosis was vague about my chances of recovery, and my consciousness included little else but fear, depression, and despair.
Yet in this darkest hour, Love's all-inclusive plan emerged. Through Christian Science, my mother had had a remarkable healing of blindness years before, and a relative whom I knew to be a devoted Christian Scientist now came to visit me. I cannot recall just what was said. It was not very much, quantitatively, but for the first time in weeks I felt like eating dinner that evening. Within a few days I tried walking along a nearby fence. My back began to straighten. Gradually, my normal chores on the farm were resumed, in addition to full-time schoolwork.
