UNHINDERED ACTIVITY

Christian Science teaches that man is the expression of God. Since limitless Love is irresistible in power and goodness, it cannot be opposed. Similarly, man, as the image of this Love, his perfect Principle, can never be obstructed or otherwise kept from expressing his Father-Mother, Mind.

In an age of despotic practices Paul wrote to the faltering Galatians (Gal. 5:7), "Who did hinder you that ye should not obey the truth?" In the preceding part of his letter he cautioned them to look not to the Jerusalem that was seeming to hinder them by recommending a return to ritual and creed in religion but to the "Jerusalem which is above" (Gal. 4:26). He was in effect urging them to be governed by God and not to be dissuaded from their spiritual worship by ceremonial laws.

In earlier Biblical times when Nehemiah was building the wall around Jerusalem, he was besieged by enemies, who did not want the city thus protected. Instead they wanted him to come down to them to talk about it. His answer was (Neh. 6:3), "I am doing a great work, so that I cannot come down: why should the work cease, whilst I leave it, and come down to you?" We shall not be retarded or delayed in our divinely directed activities if we copy the example of Nehemiah in standing firmly with Principle. Even the cross did not obstruct Jesus in his holy mission. Instead, he arose from the belief of having died and walked forth free and whole.
