As I grow in an understanding of Christian Science and review the steps of progress which have been made, I see that the changes in my character are more profoundly important than any physical healing I have experienced.

I rejected Christian Science when it was first presented to me. A copy of Science and Health by Mrs. Eddy was sent to me as a going-away present just before I sailed on a long voyage, but I did not accept its teachings at that time. When I returned, I was again presented with the opportunity to study Christian Science. This time I agreed to go to church only to please a friend. For some months I did not understand much of the reading from the desk, but I attended the service each Sunday.

A few years ago I was in an eastern city, following my profession, when I was taken ill. The tests made by a doctor revealed cancer. At this time I turned wholeheartedly to Christian Science. I did not know of a practitioner; so I worked alone with God.
