SOMETHING TO LEARN

In human experience there is always something to learn. The Christian Scientist's whole purpose is to learn and demonstrate the nature of God and man's true sonship as God's idea. This requires study, prayer, inspiration, and practice.

If one is to learn anything aright, it must actually become a part of one's being. To know God aright is to reflect the qualities of His being. The Christian Scientist learns that God is divine Mind, the only Mind, the Mind of all and the Life of His infinite creation. The Scientist also learns that evil is not power and that both evil and matter are unreal. This understanding is gained through a progressive and abiding assurance and demonstration that God, Spirit, is All.

The Apostle Paul had to learn many lessons before he could become a disciple of Jesus—one of his devout followers. He had to learn that human will and religious zeal without love are not God's ways. On the road to Damascus, there came to this eager reformer the call of the Christ, revealing to him the error of his ways. Temporarily overcome by the greatness of the revelation of God's presence and power, Paul was rendered physically blind. But quickly he responded to the call and learned the lesson of love for God and man. His sight was restored, and immediately he went out to preach and teach and heal.
