In the Bible we read (I Pet. 3:15)...

In the Bible we read (I Pet. 3:15), "Be ready always to give an answer to every man that asketh you a reason of the hope that is in you." When my youngest son was nineteen months old, my husband and I were told that one of his arms might have to be amputated. The artery and the cords leading to the fingers had been severed in an accident. The doctor who treated the arm said that even if it was spared, it would be useless.

At this point I asked my husband if I might call a Christian Science practitioner and ask her for help. His reply was: "What is the use? We have already had the best physician we can get." However, I called a practitioner in a nearby town and gave her the details. I asked her if she would take the case, and she lovingly consented to do so. She referred me to the ninety-first Psalm and to Mrs. Eddy's answer to the question, "What is man?" (Science and Health, p. 475.) I began an earnest study of Christian Science at this time and faithfully read the references given by the practitioner.

The child was brought home from the hospital, and progress was seen immediately. Various phases of discord were manifested, as the physician had predicted, but as each phase appeared I called the practitioner, and the condition was corrected in Science. One day about three weeks after the work began, the child was in much pain. I called the practitioner to make this report, and the beautiful work done brought immediate relief. From that time on the boy's progress was constant. In six months the healing was complete. This experience led our family to become students of Christian Science. During the Second World War this son enlisted in the Naval Air Force and served his country as a pilot until the end of the war.
