My introduction to Christian Science came many years ago when a friend's son was beautifully healed of diabetes. However, I had no further contact with Science for several years.

But when I was in poor health and our baby was constantly ill, I found that "man's extremity is God's opportunity." My mother visited me one day and left me the Christian Science textbook, "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures" by Mary Baker Eddy. "This book can heal," she said. "Maybe it will help you if you will read it." But I did not find time to read it then.

One day the baby was very sick with a high fever and a large swelling on her cheek. She cried continuously, and I was so tired and discouraged that I felt like crying, too. I called the doctor; then I sat down to quiet the baby and to wait.
