THE IMPORTANCE OF GUARDING ONE'S THOUGHTS
In recent years progressive nations have adopted food laws to protect the people's health. Those who manufacture and sell packaged foodstuffs are required to indicate on the label that the conditions of the laws have been fulfilled. Housewives are careful to prepare for their families not only palatable and nourishing food, but also that which is fresh, pure, and clean.
What is being done today to protect the mental, moral, and spiritual state of men and nations from the great wave of evil propaganda being fed to the millions of men, women, and children through the printed and spoken word? Courts, educators, and others interested in the welfare of mankind are greatly concerned about the spread of crime, especially among young people, and are earnestly seeking the solution of this problem. Legislators are considering ways of controlling the situation. The Christian Scientist needs to be wide awake to the flood of evil propaganda, not only for the protection of himself and his family, but also for the welfare of those who blindly or even consciously yield to its influence.
Christ Jesus said to the people (Matt. 15:11), "Not that which goeth into the mouth defileth a man; but that which cometh out of the mouth, this defileth a man." He implied that it is not the food which one eats but the thoughts which one admits into consciousness that adulterate true manhood.
