So complex was the thinking...

So complex was the thinking which conditioned my life fifteen years ago and so beset was I by problems that I had become untrustful, impatient, and neglectful in caring for a family of three intelligent children. I willingly accepted others' opinions that my health was failing. Then I heard of Christian Science from an understanding and spiritually-minded sister.

Till then I had believed God to be only a willful and demanding judge. As the synonyms for God, found in Science and Health by Mrs. Eddy, were studied I came readily to acknowledge God as the one Mind, governing all effects. False theories and beliefs began to lose their hold, and I grew strong enough to stand with the Christ, Truth, in facing the various phases of mortal mind. I was healed of distressing constipation and periodic sick headaches. Chilblains and recurrent colds ceased when joy dispelled fear of disease and climate.

Glad as I was of these evidences that good is ours to choose and that God is no respecter of persons, there were many lessons yet to learn. However, I was proving that, as Mrs. Eddy says (Science and Health, p. 13), "Love is impartial and universal in its adaptation and bestowals."
