A great sense of gratitude fills my heart when I realize how Christian Science has transformed my life. In a testimony published in The Christian Science Journal of May, 1951, I told of the healing of an arthritic condition of the spine. Much good unfolded to me in a very short time as I read the textbook, "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures" by Mary Baker Eddy.

In this second testimony I should like to share one of my first outstanding healings. Mrs. Eddy says on page 454 of the textbook, "It need not be added that the use of tobacco or intoxicating drinks is not in harmony with Christian Science." This statement brought a glorious awakening to me, for I had been accepting the notion that social drinking and smoking were harmless ways to good fellowship, and I was indulging in both. Now I discontinued these habits.

I shall never forget the night I took my stand against an alcoholic beverage. My husband and I were invited to a friend's home, and when the host passed the drinks, I declined, saying that I would prefer a soft beverage. There was some comment made, but I paid no attention to it and went right on enjoying myself while silently praising God for His great goodness and protection.
