STRENGTH IS GOD-DERIVED

Government officials, public speakers, and writers are frequently reported as stressing the necessity of being nationally prepared to negotiate world problems "from strength." The strength referred to is usually military manpower and supremacy in weapons of war, strategic base positions, and trading possibilities. It is heartening to note, however, that recently more emphasis is being placed upon the importance of spiritual power as a means of national defense. Some top leaders in free governments have earnestly sought divine guidance in solving the tremendous questions confronting mankind and have endeavored to awaken the people's thought to a greater trust in God and in spiritual power to protect and defend from evil.

In Christian Science, because it is Science, our reasoning, our work, and our demonstrations are always from the standpoint of spiritual strength. We learn to use this strength through the understanding of this Science, which is based upon the words and works of Christ Jesus and upon the Bible record in the first chapter of Genesis, where it states that God created all, that He made man in His own image and likeness, and that He beheld His creation to be "very good."

Christian Science teaches that God is Spirit, Soul, Mind, Principle, Life, Truth, Love. The real man, created in God's image, the reflection of Spirit, must therefore be spiritual. He mirrors the gentle loveliness of Soul; he reflects the intelligence of infinite, divine Mind, and the stability and steadfastness of unalterable Principle. An understanding of these truths reveals the availability of spiritual strength from which one may face world questions with courage and confidence in God's directing wisdom.
