The apparent discord of the...

The apparent discord of the world situation turned me to Christian Science over seven years ago. I was impressed by the opening lines of Science and Health by Mrs. Eddy (Pref., p. vii), "To those leaning on the sustaining infinite, to-day is big with blessings." These words were so illuminating that my fears for the future were lifted.

Soon after I began reading the textbook, an alarming lump appeared on my body. I consulted a practitioner and was immediately reassured by her certainty of the unreality of the condition. She asked me to remember that there is in reality no growth but spiritual growth. Then she gave me some citations to study and sent me home. The next morning the growth was gone.

From that moment on, I abandoned all materia medica and began studying the weekly Lesson-Sermon in the Christian Science Quarterly every morning. At that time I had the smoking habit, but soon I realized that a student of Christian Science need not be enslaved by any habit. At first it was a struggle to stop smoking, but when the fight was won I discovered I had also lost all desire for social drinking.
