Following much misfortune and...
Following much misfortune and sorrow, I became an invalid. For three years I was in bed most of the time with tuberculosis of the bowels and a nervous breakdown. I went from one physician to another. All were very kind to me, and they did what they could for me, but they told me that my condition was incurable.
When an old friend, whom I had not seen for some years, saw my condition she said, "Why don't you try Christian Science?" She said that she had a relative who had been pronounced incurable by physicians and that she was healed through the prayers of a Christian Science practitioner. A spark of hope came into my thought, and I asked to meet this relative. When I saw her healthy, happy appearance and heard her tell about the experience of her healing, I asked to meet the practitioner who had helped her.
When I went to see the practitioner, I could scarcely ascend the steps to his door; but his loving reassurance soon dispelled all fear. He gave me a treatment and loaned me the Christian Science textbook, "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures" by Mary Baker Eddy. I read constantly, and the practitioner continued to pray for me. On the third day, as I was pondering the truths I had studied, my thought was illuminated by divine Love. I felt as though a great weight had been lifted from me.
