HERE AND NOW
"We own no past, no future, we possess only now." These words by our beloved Leader, Mary Baker Eddy, are to be found on page 12 of her book "The First Church of Christ, Scientist, and Miscellany." To the student of Christian Science they bring into focus the here and now, the ever-presence, of spirituality and of the real man's perfect, harmonious being. They expose the futility of mortal mind's attempt to live in the belief of a past or in the fear of a future.
Only the infinite and the eternal can be ever and always here and now. Life expresses itself in conscious existence, and conscious existence is ever present. Life is God, as the Bible clearly tells us, and will never pass from the present into a forgotten past. The one Life is your Life and my Life, by reflection, and we shall never lose it, no matter what mortal mind may believe.
Jesus was referring to his identity as the Son of God when he said (Matt. 28:20), "Lo, I am with you alway, even unto the end of the world." We too must gain a clear realization of our spiritual identity as a child of God. Our spiritual identity is our true being here and now, eternally at one with Life, Truth, and Love, This at-one-ment is the truth for each of us, and the understanding of it brings beauty, harmony, and perfection into our human experience.
