THE MEANING OF EASTER

Throughout the world Christians are turning their thoughts to the events in the career of Jesus, which include his betrayal and crucifixion, his resurrection, and his ascension. The understanding of the meaning of these events is of the utmost importance to the progress and salvation of mankind.

The Apostle Paul wrote to the Philippians (2:12, 13): "My beloved, as ye have always obeyed, not as in my presence only, but now much more in my absence, work out your own salvation with fear and trembling. For it is God which worketh in you both to will and to do of his good pleasure."

Here is a clear statement that each one must demonstrate for himself, in his daily living, his own salvation from sin, disease, and death. No one can do it for him. This is what Jesus indicated when he said to his disciples (Matt. 16:24, 25), "If any man will come after me, let him deny himself, and take up his cross, and follow me."
