The love that is explained and...
The love that is explained and taught in "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures" by Mary Baker Eddy appealed to me from the first time I read this textbook. Two statements in it stood out to me. One was (p. 254), "When we wait patiently on God and seek Truth righteously, He directs our path." The other was (p. 492): "Being is holiness, harmony, immortality. It is already proved that a knowledge of this, even in small degree, will uplift the physical and moral standard of mortals, will increase longevity, will purify and elevate character."
The sentence, "Being is holiness, harmony, immortality," was easy to memorize, and I repeated it many times a day. The promise which follows it encouraged me to think that, even though I didn't understand Science very much at first, even a little knowledge of God would help me. These truths gave me needed strength and courage in working out inharmonious family relationships.
After starting the earnest study of Science, I discovered I was free from tonsillitis. I had suffered all seasons of the year form this since early childhood. I had been told by company physicians where I worked that I would have to have my tonsils removed if I continued in my employment. This removal proved to be unnecessary. I do not know when the healing took place, but each day I tried to gain a purer concept of the perfect man.
I know that it was God directing me when I asked a loved one to call a practitioner to help me at the birth of my second daughter. When it appeared the birth would be abnormal a specialist was called by the doctor in attendance. Little hope was expressed that either the baby or I would survive. As a result of the practitioner's consecrated prayer the baby was born in a normal manner, much to the surprise of the doctors. This experience was a very beautiful one, not only for me but for all who saw it.
We have had many healings in our family, some instantaneous and others requiring a period of devoted study. Some of the quicker healings have been those of colds, measles, chicken pox, ringworm, sties, bee stings, influenza, earache, and croup. More study has been required for the securing of proper homes, business locations, and harmonious employment, as well as for the healing of smoking, whooping cough, scarlet fever, and mastoiditis. The last-named condition was healed by mental surgery.
I could not begin to tell of all the good that has been brought about by this wonderful Science, which Mrs. Eddy so unselfishly gave to us. Each day I have a greater appreciation of the completeness of her mission.
I cannot end this testimony without expressing gratitude for the loving, harmonious atmosphere in our home—a result of our all being students of Christian Science. I am also grateful that Mrs. Eddy included class instruction as a provision for our spiritual growth, because this experience has given me confidence and fresh inspiration.—(Mrs.) Wilhelmina G. Albright, Downey, California.
