It was a bitter and expensive...

It was a bitter and expensive experience which forced me to rely radically on Christian Science for healing. I had submitted to a major surgical operation, which was performed to remove malignant tumors, and I had subsequently returned to the surgeon's office for periodic checkups. Seven months after the operation the secretary of one of the doctors who performed the operation called my husband at his office and told him that the doctor would like to see him as soon as possible. She asked him not to mention this fact to me. My husband immediately sensed danger and made an appointment to see the doctor.

When my husband kept the appointment, he was told that recent physical examinations showed that the growths for which the operation had been performed had begun again and that there was nothing more that medical science could do for me. I could be expected to live only form three months to a year longer, the doctor said.

We immediately took up the earnest study of Christian Science, and for four months I visited a practitioner regularly twice each week. In addition, I read in its entirety "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures" by Mary Baker Eddy. The Manual of The Mother Church by the same author was also carefully read. My husband and I arose early enough each morning to read the entire weekly Lesson-Sermon in the Christian Science Quarterly, and we regularly attended Sunday services and Wednesday evening testimony meetings, as well as all lectures on Christian Science which were given in the area.
