Some time ago I had an attack of...
Some time ago I had an attack of shingles. The pain was almost unbearable, and I could scarcely walk, sit, lie down, or sleep. A member of the family insisted on consulting a doctor, but I did not go to a hospital and had no medical treatment. I fully relied on Christian Science. With the help of a practitioner I was able to attend my annual association within a few days, for I was determined to let nothing keep me away; and the following week I was all right.
While I was vacationing in the mountains I badly injured one ankle and wounded my knees. That night before I went to sleep I read "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures" by Mrs. Eddy and gained a great sense of peace. When I awoke in the morning I saw that I was late for a breakfast appointment. I hurriedly jumped out of bed to get dressed, then I suddenly realized in amazement that my ankle and knees had no pain. There was no swelling and no wounds. All was quite normal. I ran downstairs overwhelmed with joy and gratitude. Two days later I climbed a mountain and enjoyed it.
Christian Science also rescued me from a very serious auto accident. I got out of the car declaring (Science and Health, p. 424), "Under divine Providence there can be no accidents, since there is no room for imperfection in perfection." The impact of my body against the steering wheel and dashboard had caused my chest and knees to become quite discolored and much swollen. A doctor who later examined me for insurance purposes said I had a broken rib, cuts, and bruises. He was very much concerned about the condition of my face, which had become badly infected, and he said that I would have to take some tablets which he gave me. As soon as he left the room, I disposed of the tablets. About this time I felt something snap in my chest. Immediately I could breathe more easily, and there was no more pain there.
